Colin Baker, the sixth Doctor Who, is to play the lead in local short film ‘Finding Richard’.

The film follows a young boy, Gull, who on hearing that the bones of Richard the Third have been found begins his own archaeological quest. Helping him on this journey is his Grandad, himself a dreamer who see something of himself in Gull. But what Gull finds isn’t quite what he – or his Grandad – expected.

Joining I’m A Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here alumni Colin Baker is local actor David Knight, 12. David, who plays Gull, has appeared in Doctors and Britain’s Got Talent and attends local drama school The Pauline Quirk Academy.

The short film, to be shot on location in Leicestershire, is co-written and directed by Rhys Davies of Hive Films whose feature film ‘How To Make A Movie For 43 Pounds’ recently premiered at Dave’s Leicester Comedy Festival.  Doug Cubin of Sawscale Films co-writes and produces.

Speaking from Los Angeles Colin Baker said “I am excited about taking part in this project.  I receive many scripts from successful or aspiring film makers and am rarely able to participate
unfortunately. However – I’ll make no bones about it (!) when I read ‘Finding Richard’  I knew that I had to try and find time to play Grandad. It’s a an impressive, gentle and sensitive script, so I have managed to squeeze the time between trips to the USA and New Zealand and am looking forward to joining the team in Leicester.”

Rhys Davies said: “The film is an homage to dreamers everywhere. Stay true to yourself, follow your own path and you will succeed. To work with a legend such as Colin Baker is an exciting prospect, and together with rising star David Knight I believe they will make the film a special prospect.”

Doug Cubin said: “This film being destined for Cannes and having such a great cast means we will do everything possible to create a wonderful experience for the audience.”

“Finding Richard” is a co-production between Hive Films and Sawscale Films being produced for Cannes 2014, with a tight deadline of 3rd March for entries.
